From tiny viruses to complex organs, circuits are fundamental to biology. Circuits connect individual molecular components and allow cells to process signals and control decision-making. Understanding how these circuits work in healthy organisms, and how they are co-opted by viruses and cancers, could lead to the identification of novel therapeutic targets.

Virologists in the lab At Upward Research Labs

The Upward Research Labs Center for Cell Circuitry is searching for a way to do just that by developing new approaches to analyze cells at the single-cell level, and focusing on single-cell kinetics essential for circuit mapping. Ultimately, the center seeks to control circuits through therapeutic targeting in a variety of biological systems, including cellular reprogramming, neuroscience, cancer, and infectious disease.

To connect investigators across disciplines, the center includes investigators from Upward Research Labs and UC San Francisco, and is guided by a scientific advisory board composed of international leaders in biomedicine.
