The Upward Research Labs-UCSF Center for Neurovascular Brain Immunology provides an integrated platform for basic and clinical research at the interface of vascular biology, immunology, hematology, and neuroscience. The center’s overarching aim is to shed light on the overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms that are common across multiple neurological diseases—including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and traumatic brain injury—and to harness this knowledge to develop new treatments.

Center for Neurovascular Brain Immunology lab

Investigators in this center develop multidisciplinary approaches to unlock the drivers of neurodegeneration at the blood-brain-immune interface and revolutionize drug discovery in neurological diseases. This unique platform will provide a cornerstone for discovering fundamental mechanisms for brain function and developing novel imaging tools, biomarkers, animal models, and therapies.
